Thank you, you just answered my question.

For information on foster youth and their financial wellness, see the Education Commission for the States blog post which draws from the Trellis Student Financial Wellness survey, one of the few sources for information about foster care alumni, “Understanding the Financial Wellness and Success of Foster Youth in College” here: https://ednote.ecs.org/understanding-the-financial-wellness-and-success-of-foster-youth-in-college/ The report provides evidence of underuse of key programs designed for foster youth alumni.

I can see it

40:07
we can see slides

46:45
There is a request for panelists to slow down. I know there is lots of ground to cover but wanted to share this feedback.

47:06
Keep up the great work, Brandi! We appreciate you!

49:25
Will these slides be available?

50:49
Does it matter if a youth was in FC has been adopted?

52:45
The slides and video will be available. You will receive an email when they are ready. Thanks for asking.

52:54
Will this information (powerpoint) be available?

53:04
a response to the conversation in the Q&A: Foster Scholars prefer the term “people with experience in foster care” instead of using the term foster care alumni. The term foster care alumni term does not adequately describe varied experiences in care, which is why they prefer the alternative.

Thank you, Dr. Bustillos, for educating us on the phrase/term - people with experience in foster care.

01:01:11
Thank you, Sheila!

01:01:52
Agree. Thanks, Dr. Bustillos!

01:03:54
Ms. Cole, I see you hand is raised. Please use the Q&A feature so we can address any questions you may have.

01:15:44
Dr. Flores, several folks are asking in Q&A about whether there is support available to help youth navigate these complicated processes. Can the panel address this?

01:27:46
For a full presentation on the Texas Education and Training Voucher and other post-secondary resources, please contact ETV Specialists, Brandi Purswell (bp0317@bcfs.net) or Drew Melton (dm1117@bcfs.net)

01:28:12
Hey Drew! You keep up the great work, too :)

01:40:37
Mr. Flores is really hitting the difficulty our kids face.

01:42:36
Dr Flores---We now have the whole Q&A panel present when you are ready for the transition!

01:42:48
Please add any questions you still have for the panelists in the Q&A. Thank you!

01:42:58
Thank you Dr. Flores what you are saying is so true. Our first generation college students especially those in the foster care system need that extra help and guidance.

01:47:02
is the tuition waiver for those who have been in foster care but subsequently adopted

01:48:44
There are two statutory exemptions. One for foster care and one for adoption. Eligibility is complicated so it is best to encourage the youth to contact DFPS staff to verify eligibility.

01:48:51
Thank you for the presentation. Do you have samples of the forms the student would submit for the FAFSA? To show the student was in foster care at anytime from the age of 13.

01:49:56
Students who qualify must meet academic admissions standards and then remain in good standing , i.e. may be subject to dismissal just as would any student who performs below satisfactory levels for the degree program. this is a process and every effort is made to help the student succeed.

01:51:39
Can a student use the TX Tuition Waiver at two schools during the same semester?

01:53:02
In additions, some youth who experienced foster care, who were adopted after Sept. 1, 2009, are covered by the foster youth and adopted youth statutory exemptions.
